Birtwistle headshot

Marc Birtwistle, PhD

Dr. Birtwistle is the CEO and co-founder of Blotting Innovations. His influence in chemical engineering and biochemistry is backed by a robust academic foundation, comprising a BS degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology, followed by a PhD from the University of Delaware and postdoctoral work at the Beatson Institute of Cancer Research and Systems Biology Ireland, where he specialized in the study of molecular systems biology from computational and experimental perspectives.

Since 2012, Dr. Birtwistle has led a National Institutes of Health (NIH)-funded independent research laboratory focused on cell, molecular, and systems biology, of particular relevance to cancer. The lab is committed to translating basic research findings into practical applications that better match patients to targeted therapeutic strategies using a combination of experimental and computational approaches.

Dr. Birtwistle's vision and innovative spirit have not only propelled the research capabilities of his lab but have also played a crucial role in establishing Blotting Innovations as a rising player in the realm of protein analysis. Through his work, Dr. Birtwistle continues to push the boundaries of biochemical research, firmly positioning his lab and Blotting Innovations as key contributors to scientific advancements in health and disease understanding.

Jonah R. Huggins

Jonah R. Huggins is the Chief Scientific Officer and co-founder of Blotting Innovations. As a founding member of the team, he began as an undergraduate research assistant, developing prototypes that now make up Blotting Innovation’s product portfolio.

Jonah obtained his Bachelor of Science in Microbiology in 2019 and spent several years working in various industry roles in-tandem with developing the Mesowestern blot. Jonah brings a needed industry-perspective to the team, from his time as a scientist in both quality control biochemistry and corporate research and development.

Currently, Jonah is pursuing a Ph.D. in Biomedical Data Science and Informatics in Dr. Birtwistle’s research lab. His research focuses on mathematical modeling of cell signaling events in cancer biology. Along with formal training in data science and biostatistics, he carries a strong skillset in programming and computer science to Blotting Innovations.

Cameron Orrod Zadeh, PhD

Dr. Zadeh is the Chief Operating Officer and co-founder of Blotting Innovations. His journey began during his undergraduate studies in Chemical Engineering, where he made breakthroughs on the Mesowestern project in 2017, designing and building the first prototypes using additive manufacturing techniques.

Cameron conducted wet lab experiments focused on protein analysis, contributing to the advancement of high-throughput western blotting systems and also his Master’s thesis, which he successfully completed and defended in 2019. After earning his Master's degree, Cameron began pursuing a PhD in Automotive Engineering, which he earned in 2024. His doctoral research delved deep into the complex physics of additive manufacturing processes. By developing simulation models designed to predict the outcomes of these processes, he contributed novel insights that may enable more efficient and effective production methods.

Cameron continues to spearhead projects at Blotting Innovations that merge theoretical knowledge with innovative engineering solutions, ensuring a lasting impact on the field.
